GESTION DEL CAOS - conflictologia

http://www.capurro.de/badia.html

„no analizar, no juzgar, no sancionar“

'Form follows function' becomes
(according to Information Aesthetics blog)
'Form follows data'
and this becomes
an investigation into the form of thinking
(which is not the same as thinking forms -
it is a kind of reverse architecture)

Notes for the “Blue Brain…”

Projectile logic: Nobody knows what it is about but everybody knows how to do it…

Brain logic: Everybody knows what is about, but nobody knows how to do it…

How to write scripts for the future? The blue brain acts as artificial intelligence, thinking about “futures”. Some devices are developed using “memory” (museums, computers…) but what about a device that is constantly growing up, suffers attacks, and where you can avoid inside and outside? The organic logic of the brain, is a catastrophic one too? Catastrophic logic and brain…

The brain developing process is trough a “learning process…”

Does we need to develop politics of the brain?

Internet is a conscience for a extended brain?

“Think tank” as a “war metaphor” for the brain…

Confusion and anonymity works in a double bind…

Conscience and unconscious as theater for scripting techniques.

How can we analyze big amounts of information? Does we need to produce “reading devices- machines”?

Negative Scenarios
Positive descriptions of what a system does can mislead people into over-interpreting and expecting more than has been specified. For that reason it is useful in specifying scenarios describing what is to be done in a project, to add some possible related scenarios that will not be within the planned scope of the project. To some extent the restrictions can be specified in an abstract way without using scenario-level detail. However it will often be clearer to add notes to a scenario description explicitly excluding some possible extensions that some readers might expect to be included. This can also help to focus the attention of designers on the reasons why they are excluded, which will generally be technical, but in some cases may be ethical, or may arise out of concerns for the market place: the investment costs would not be repaid or the extensions might make the system too expensive, for example

“People make tons of decisions and often they don’t know why,” Iacoboni said. “A lot of decision-making is unconscious, and brain imaging will be used in the near future to perceive and decide about politicians.”

In reference to dream analysis mentioned above, an additional explanation for some aspects of dreams may be the chance creation (and subsequent use of) spandrels in the brain.

The biochemistry of the brain is altered by the LSD and the prioritizing function of the brain is altered; it no longer "knows" what is important and what is not.

Art is an externalization of the psyche in a way that the individual conveys ideas and images which are much larger than can be traditionally communicated.

The image of brain function that I am presenting is that it is much more complex than we had previously thought and it is clearly not static. Although some filters and transforms are "permanent," others are more transitory and both can be part of the creation of spandrels at any moment.

"In the context of evolution, a spandrel is a metaphor for characteristics that are or were orginally side effects and not true adaptions to the environment. This metaphorical meaning works no matter which kind of architectural spandrel is referred to: the spandrel is the un-designed gap between other features, which is then often exploited for a use of its own."

Take the human brain. Most of what the human brain does is useful in a sense — that is, we make do with it — but the brain is also an enormously complex computer, and most of its modes of working don't have to be direct results of natural selection for its specific attainments. Natural selection didn't build our brains to write or to read, that's for sure, because we didn't do those things for so

One of the main reasons I'm proud of that paper is that I do believe in interdisciplinary perspectives and — as an essayist, particularly — the use of examples from other fields. The paper succeeded because I used a fairly arresting strategy of argument, by beginning with an architectural example.

The spandrels are not just nooks and crannies; they actually determine the iconographic program of the dome itself. Just as with the human brain: most of what the brain does are probably spandrels — that is, the brain got big by natural selection for a small set of reasons having to do with what is good about brains on the African savannas. But by virtue of that computational power, the brain can

the brain can do thousands of things that have nothing to do with why natural selection made it big in the first place, and those are its spandrels.

I'm not a great experimentalist. But I pride myself on having immersed myself in Western culture and having learned some languages, and knowing certain aspects of humanism that many scientists don't take up.

Introducing Interactive Fiction

It's been more than two decades since Will Crowther and Don Woods wrote Colossal Cave, the first computer adventure game. Things have gotten complicated since then, what with the proliferation of web sites and the growing number of people using computers.

This article is a brief overview of the specific brand of interactive fiction covered by this site, namely, computer adventure games. If you're new to the adventure game scene or want a review of what resources are available for the adventure game player, then read on.

Language is a Spandrel of the Mind

http://www.spectacle.org/498/spandrel.html

by Jonathan Wallace jw@bway.net

I am reading Daniel Dennett's excellent Darwin's Dangerous Idea, in which he devotes some space to the concept of "spandrels" in evolutionary thought. A spandrel is more or less an accidental byproduct of something else of more adaptive significance. Later, the spandrel itself may become an adaptation, though it did not start out as one...

In Queneau's Zazie dans le Metro there is a parrot who throughout the novel repeats the same words over and over: "You talk, you talk, its all you know how to do." Queneau had it right; less talking, less writing, fewer words might give room for clearer perceptions and cleaner emotion. Too much food, wine, language is an intoxicant. Less is better. Language is highly over-rated as a means of communication.
